Vocabulary for love on Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love in all forms! Traditionally people give cards (anonymously) to someone they love or someone they have a crush on, buy chocolates and candies for their partners, and go on romantic dates. Here are some vocabulary and phrases that are all about love for Valentine’s day!

to have a crush on

to have romantic feelings for someone, usually secretly. This is often used by younger people to talk about someone they like.

Example: I have a huge crush on James McAvoy.

to flirt

to say sweet, kind, romantic things to someone you’re romantically interested in.

Example: He never knows how to flirt with people he finds attractive. He’s too shy!

go out on a date/dating/ to date

a date is an event out with someone you’re romantically involved with- your boyfriend, girlfriend, date mate, etc. If you’re dating someone, you are seeing them romantically, often, and exclusively.

Example: I’m going out on a first date with a new girl from work.
