It’s my summer vacation, so I thought we could look at some summertime phrasal verbs and idioms!
Let’s look at ‘kick back’ and ‘catch up’.
Kick back means relaxing and not doing anything too difficult. ‘This week I’m going to kick back on the sofa and watch some Netflix.’
Catch up has two meanings. The first is to talk with friends you haven’t spoken to in a long time, and the other is connected to work or hobbies that you have neglected and want to improve on. ‘I plan on catching up with some old high school friends and catching up with my reading- I have 5 books in my ‘to be read’ pile that I need to start reading!’

Our summertime idiom today is ‘to recharge your batteries’. I don’t mean actual batteries (though this has that literal meaning too). I mean taking time to get my energy and stamina back. ‘I’m going to recharge my batteries this week by sunbathing and maybe swimming in the sea!’ You can shorten this to simply ‘to recharge’, as most know the meaning.

How do you recharge your batteries?
